I love the “three levels of self-awareness.” I was excited when I heard that the phrase was being used. I loved the analogy that everyone has (or should have) to self-aware, but they don’t really do the self-aware thing.
That’s not really true. There are lots of self-aware people. When I was having my own personal existential crisis, I wrote down my own list of attributes that I wanted to be and I had to have my mother call me “self-aware.” It was interesting how much I changed my list, but I think it was a good exercise.
If you are trying to self-awareness, this is the way to go. I don’t think anyone will actually ask you this question. But I think it’s pretty important to ask.
I think the real self-awareness is when you realize that you can’t really control what you do. Even the most “self-aware” and “self-controlling” of people will still find themselves in the same situation they were in before. You can’t control your actions, and you can’t control what you look like or what you like.
I think this is very true. The self-awareness that many people have is a very limited one. Some people will be very self-aware, but their self-awareness will be very limited.
