This quote from Stacey Abrams is just as inspiring as the title of this post. The fact is that we have this idea of self-awareness and the idea that we can all be more aware and aware of ourselves.

We like to imagine that we are more aware than we actually are. In fact, the truth of the matter is that we’re not. We’re more aware of our actions and reactions than we are aware of our motives. That’s a sad state of affairs when you’re a human being.

Stacey Abrams is talking about self-awareness. Self-awareness is knowing that we are aware of our actions and reactions. Self-awareness is knowing that we are aware of our motives and all the things we don’t know we are aware of. We just have to stop and think. That’s hard.

So basically, self-awareness is knowing the difference between the two extremes. It’s knowing that we are responsible for our own choices and reactions. It’s not just believing that everything is out of our control, or that we can change it. It’s knowing when we are wrong, or when we are right, and when we are doing what is appropriate in each situation.

This is a big topic, but one we talk about often in our sessions. We tend to have a tendency to be very impatient with ourselves from time to time. This happens because we tend to think that we can control everything, and we just have to wait until we feel good about ourselves. We tend to think, “I don’t know what it is going to feel like when I wake up tomorrow, so I just have to wait until it does.

There are two ways to take this a step further. The first is to take it to the extreme, and wait till we’ve had a full life, when we’ve figured out what we are doing and are no longer in our own thoughts. And the second is to take it to the point of no return. We tend to think we have to feel good about ourselves, and we start to think we have to have some measure of control over things.

Stacey Abrams is a brilliant thinker, person, and thinker, so I’m not surprised that she takes her time to think through a lot of what she is doing before she writes it down. And like any good thinker, she goes in with a plan, and that plan is to do a lot of work, to do a lot of research, and to use that information to get the most out of what she is doing.
